A B O U T  M E

My name is Henrik and I'm a frontend developer!

I live in Stockholm together with my girlfriend, daughter, son and cat. I've always been interested in programming, especially for the internet. When I was 15 I made my first HTML site using only the wordpad. It consisted of a repeating image of Bart Simpson as background coupled with flames and under construction banners. As cool as that may be, I hopefully make sites that are a little bit nicer now :)

Back then there weren't any web programming courses (that I remember) so I pursued other interests instead. But I eventually found my way back to programming and started a front end developer program at Nackademin that I finished in 2019.

Education

2007 and 2009

Stockholm University

As part of a teachers degree I studied geography and history. Super interesting but I eventually felt I wanted to take another path in life. I also took some stand alone history courses at Uppsala University.

2017-2019

Nackademin

Frontend development. I've had courses in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, project methodology, version control using Git, PHP, MySQL, Wordpress, React and graphics/image editing for web developers.

I've also taken some stand alone courses in Web management (information architecture) at Linnéuniversitetet and C++ programming at Uppsala university.
Skills

It's super hard to rate your skills and I thought about adding the obligatory skill progress bars but then I realized they generally aren't that useful anyway. And also; the more you dive in to a technique or framework the more you realize you don't know :)

Accessibility online is something I think is super important. I have now worked with all things WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and the equivalent Swedish and European laws for almost 2 years now. Much more has to be done to make the web a place for all people and I'd like to contribute to that!

I did both of my internships at a company mainly focused on making WordPress (with ACF) based sites. They also used jQuery, Bootstrap and Sass with a mobile first approach. I've also helped build a WooCommerce shop for one of their clients.

Most of my experience is with WordPress. I've coded Gutenberg blocks (with React) and plugins that we used in our projects. Although WP is what I know best I'm open and willing to try other frameworks and techniques. I like to code along to The Net Ninja and Traversy Media on Youtube. Now I'm in to Frontity to make my WordPress experience more React-y :)

Work

For most of my working life I've been a salesman at Teknikmagasinet. But through the years (2006-2019) I've tried on the role as store manager and I've also worked as a customer support agent. Although hard at times I've always liked meeting and helping customers. There is not a single tech question I can not answer! :)

As part of my frontend degree I had 7 months of internship that I spent at Texas Digital Agency.

Since 2020 I work at WCAG Networks as a frontend dev. We strive to make accessibility more accessible to our clients. We build new websites or make changes to an existing website to make it conform to the WCAG standard. We also manually analyse websites and apps to help our clients resolve accessibility issues and teach techniques to help them meet each success criterion.

> mcf

A new site for MCF with alot of content and several complex design elements.

The client wanted a site that was easy to update with content and a smooth WP admin experience that still allowed the user to change as much as possible. So we spent a lot of time making the admin part and the update process easy to understand and use.

The design we worked from was fairly complex with several components that required a couple of hours of Sass work to function on both mobile and desktop. Bootstrap was used for layout but we modified it to better fit our needs.

A super fun project to be a part of!

> pop up go

An online store for an existing customer that wanted to extend their sales reach during the pandemic.

A client wanted to sell part of their restaurant menu online when the pandemic hit. We got the store up and running in just a couple of days with integrated payment options, delivery/take away options, a robust seller backend etc.

This concept grew and became PopUp Go that mainly restaurants without an online ordering system easily could implement within a couple of days.

We built it so that it would be easy to modify the color scheme, fonts etc to make the site fit each client.

> frisq
